5/12/2021 0 Comments Jurassic Coast Fossil Finding Here I am heading out along Monmouth beach at low tide, to see the Jurassic Coast in May . I am seeing what I can find washed out by the sea , during quite a stormy day . Finding fossils is fun and as long as you follow the fossil collecting code of conduct ,you can pick up what the sea has washed out for you onto the beach . The sea does the work for you washing fossils out of the mudslides onto the beach. It’s important when fossil hunting on the beach to stay away from the dangerous cliffs . The cliffs are liable to fall suddenly and without warning. In this video I made recently I find a wonderful sea urchin fossil preserved in flint . With sturdy rubber gloves and safety spectacles I break this fossil out of the rock by tapping the rock with a hammer . You can’t prepare flint rock 🪨 so the “gentle” hammering is your only option .In the rock I pick up I can see signs of a worn seaurchin , a worn part of it can be seen protruding out of the rock . Come on a guided fossil walk with us if you’d like to learn more about fossil collecting along the Jurassic Coast.http://www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com The website shows you the private fossil walks we run along the Jurassic Coast.See our Video on YouTube Below ,thanks for that . https://youtu.be/Siy9iBEBYCY

Fantastic Fossil Photos On Instagram .A few weeks ago i joined Instagram. This is a service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately.A good number of "fossilists"have shared some wonderful photographs of their fossil finds on Instagram.
Recently i uploaded an ammonite nodule,i had found when out fossil collecting. The fossil is filmed with the round part of the nodule showing in my hand.I then flip the stone over to reveal the ammonite inside the stone.I stipulate in the video description that" i can`t believe its flipping Thursday already."Its certainly true the weeks just fly by these days. The ammonite flipping phase certainly seems to be growing on Instagram every Thursday. If the trend continues in the next weeks the Fossil Flip Thursday Hashtag should see a lot more entries. I have told people that flipping your fossil over a bed or cushion is good practice.Luckily so far i have managed to catch all my fossil specimens. Please follow us on Instagram @brandonfossils and you can see all our fossil videos there. The video directly below this text is one of the nodules that i have also shared on YouTube for people to view.
