Fingers crossed that we will be coming out of Lockdown in the not too distant future. I am going to be offering fossil polishing for people at my shop at 7 Drakes Way and we have some outside space for the work .On a nice day in the Summer[ hopefully by then] some folkes keen to try polishing a fossil can do so.The work is by hand to grind the fossils down to produce a fine smooth surface. Then i will buff them up on a felt wheel for you obtaining a really shiny surface on your specimen. The fossil will be charged at £6 and then the lapdiary work will be taught to you .Have a fun informative day learning to polish a fossil by hand for yourself .The activity duration is around thirty minutes for the best results. It is an enjoyable experience for all the family .

The picture below is of a fossil Ichthyosaur Jaw that I found and prepared. It was a while ago that I found this along the Jurassic Coast. It took me many hours of careful preparation to get the specimen to look this good. It was fossilised in soft shale and I used pins to prize the shale away from the ichthyosaur rostrum. The new YouTube video below is one of a number of fossil collecting films I have put onto YouTube. This latest video also shows me finding a different fossil jaw that has been worn by the sea. Fantastic Fossil Photos On Instagram .A few weeks ago i joined Instagram. This is a service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately.A good number of "fossilists"have shared some wonderful photographs of their fossil finds on Instagram.
Recently i uploaded an ammonite nodule,i had found when out fossil collecting. The fossil is filmed with the round part of the nodule showing in my hand.I then flip the stone over to reveal the ammonite inside the stone.I stipulate in the video description that" i can`t believe its flipping Thursday already."Its certainly true the weeks just fly by these days. The ammonite flipping phase certainly seems to be growing on Instagram every Thursday. If the trend continues in the next weeks the Fossil Flip Thursday Hashtag should see a lot more entries. I have told people that flipping your fossil over a bed or cushion is good practice.Luckily so far i have managed to catch all my fossil specimens. Please follow us on Instagram @brandonfossils and you can see all our fossil videos there. The video directly below this text is one of the nodules that i have also shared on YouTube for people to view.
