The fossil hunting in September has been very poor along the Jurassic Coast. Many thousands of people have walked the beaches around low tide at Lyme Regis to look for fossils this Summer. The weather has been so dry this September that the fossils are not being eroded out of the mudslides, which are baked hard and dry by the sun. I am starting the guided fossil walks back up in the coming Winter months. There will be less competition on the beach with far fewer people looking for fossils in stormy weather. Brave the elements and come on a fossil walk with us later this year. We will show you sieving techniques that help you to find perfect iron pyrites ammonites. We will also show you how to split the right rocks with a geological hammer and safety spectacles on. See our guided fossil walks at www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com

9/9/2021 0 Comments Winter Fossil WalksWe take guided fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast .The Winter fossil hunting trips will be happening soon ,starting in November. These are some of the best fossil hunting trips you can arrange with us ,where you might even find the back bone of an Ichthyosaur or Plesiosaur. The sea does the work for you washing fossils out of the mudslides. In Winter the erosion rates are higher.Rough seas along with more rain wash out the fossils onto the beaches.I will guide you to the best collecting areas and show you what fossil bearing rocks to look for-at low tide.So see our organised fossil collecting trips at www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com These fossil walks get booked up in advance especially at the weekends .E-mail us at [email protected] and we can look at a fossil collecting day for you in conjunction with safe tide times.See us @lymeregis fossils on instagram for some of our daily fossil finds!

Fantastic Fossil Photos On Instagram .A few weeks ago i joined Instagram. This is a service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately.A good number of "fossilists"have shared some wonderful photographs of their fossil finds on Instagram.
Recently i uploaded an ammonite nodule,i had found when out fossil collecting. The fossil is filmed with the round part of the nodule showing in my hand.I then flip the stone over to reveal the ammonite inside the stone.I stipulate in the video description that" i can`t believe its flipping Thursday already."Its certainly true the weeks just fly by these days. The ammonite flipping phase certainly seems to be growing on Instagram every Thursday. If the trend continues in the next weeks the Fossil Flip Thursday Hashtag should see a lot more entries. I have told people that flipping your fossil over a bed or cushion is good practice.Luckily so far i have managed to catch all my fossil specimens. Please follow us on Instagram @brandonfossils and you can see all our fossil videos there. The video directly below this text is one of the nodules that i have also shared on YouTube for people to view.
