This video is of a fossil finding adventure along the Jurassic Coast, during a very low tide.See Brandon Lennon as he walks from Lyme Regis towards Charmouth .The Spring tides are just right for fossil hunting in rockpools further out to sea.The green weedy areas are slippery and best to be avoided. The low tide gives you a lot of areas to look at .Always beware of the dangerous cliffs and don`t go near to them they are liable to fall suddenly and without warning .Come on a fossil walk with us for some expert help and guidance www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com .See our newly updated video on YouTube as below ,thanks.
There are some extra large Spring tides on the South Coast this week .Mary Anning ( 1799-1847) was the famous fossil hunting lady of Lyme Regis. She would have had it in mind to be making the most of the fossil collecting during the Spring tides - in her time . The low tide time would have given her ample opportunity to make the most of the fossil collecting . All the beach would have been exposed as the sea lowered by a substantial amount. She would have stayed away from the dangerous cliffs . Her little dog called Tray got killed in a landslide. Mary Anning knew all to well just how dangerous the cliffs were at Lyme Regis. Hopefully, there will be some good fossil finds for people having a search for them along the Jurassic Coast this week -at low tide . It’s a great outdoor space to be in with plenty of fresh air !See our Instagram post every Monday about Mary Anning it’s at #maryanningmonday
We will be re- starting the fossil walks again at Lyme Regis- in May 2021.The guided fossil walk details are available online to view.We head out fossil collecting along the Jurassic Coast. We start at our shop 7 Drakes Way, Lyme Regis ,Dorset ,DT7 3QP. See our recent Video above on YouTube. Its all about the latest great fossil collecting along the Jurassic Coast .See an absolute smashing piece of the fossil wood i find right at the end of the video. The agatized and slicified fossil wood is from the chert beds .This is a fairly rare Cretaceous age fossil specimen .See our other videos on Youtube and don`t forget to hit the subscribe button to see more of our fossil hunting films ,thank you .
Fingers crossed that we will be coming out of Lockdown in the not too distant future.
I am going to be offering fossil polishing for people at my shop at 7 Drakes Way and we have some outside space for the work .On a nice day in the Summer[ hopefully by then] some folkes keen to try polishing a fossil can do so.The work is by hand to grind the fossils down to produce a fine smooth surface. Then i will buff them up on a felt wheel for you obtaining a really shiny surface on your specimen. The fossil will be charged at £6 and then the lapdiary work will be taught to you .Have a fun informative day learning to polish a fossil by hand for yourself .The activity duration is around thirty minutes for the best results. It is an enjoyable experience for all the family .
The picture below is of a fossil Ichthyosaur Jaw that I found and prepared. It was a while ago that I found this along the Jurassic Coast. It took me many hours of careful preparation to get the specimen to look this good. It was fossilised in soft shale and I used pins to prize the shale away from the ichthyosaur rostrum. The new YouTube video below is one of a number of fossil collecting films I have put onto YouTube. This latest video also shows me finding a different fossil jaw that has been worn by the sea. See our YouTube videos at - Brandonlennon Channel.
This is a recent film i made about my journey along to the ammonite pavemnet. You can visit this special place at low tide on the beach, West of Lyme Regis ,Dorset. This video i have put on to my YouTube Channel -Brandonlennon.See below my film on Youtube .Thanks for watching and don`t forget to subscribe to my channel for more of my fossil films.
With Autumn just around the corner it is nearly the third Anniversary of Fossil Flip Thursday. Instagram has been a showcase in recent years for some outstanding fossil specimens. Some ammonites for example may be rough looking on one side, but when flipped over to reveal the other side they look exceptionally beautiful. Fossil Flip Thursday has seen some excellent videos of fossils, with many participants especially showing off their ammonite specimens on the day. I hope there will be a really large turn out to flip their fossils on the 22nd October 2020.In these unprecedented times at least one thing is for sure a lot of people will be flipping their fossils in the next weeks a head .Its always such a fun opportunity to show off fossils that you have found and prepared.
At the end of July 2020 Luke and I found a beautiful ammonite along the Jurassic Coast. Going out fossil collecting safely at low tide got us this specimen of Asteroceras Obtusum !
Fantastic Fossil Photos On Instagram .
A few weeks ago i joined Instagram. This is a service that allows users to share pictures and videos either publicly or privately.A good number of "fossilists"have shared some wonderful photographs of their fossil finds on Instagram.
Recently i uploaded an ammonite nodule,i had found when out fossil collecting. The fossil is filmed with the round part of the nodule showing in my hand.I then flip the stone over to reveal the ammonite inside the stone.I stipulate in the video description that" i can`t believe its flipping Thursday already."Its certainly true the weeks just fly by these days. The ammonite flipping phase certainly seems to be growing on Instagram every Thursday. If the trend continues in the next weeks the Fossil Flip Thursday Hashtag should see a lot more entries.
I have told people that flipping your fossil over a bed or cushion is good practice.Luckily so far i have managed to catch all my fossil specimens. Please follow us on Instagram @brandonfossils and you can see all our fossil videos there. The video directly below this text is one of the nodules that i have also shared on YouTube for people to view.
I am a fossil walk guide on the jurassic coast.
